ADDITIONAL CARES ACT FUNDING FOR SMALL BUSINESS AVAILABLE – Apply November 2, 2020

Governor DeWine announced today several initiatives allocating $430 million in CARES Act funds for assist small businesses, bars and restaurants, and families impacted by COVID-19. The initiatives are part of an agreement between Gov. DeWine and legislative leaders; the proposal will go before the State Controlling Board for approval on Monday.

Among the initiatives is the Home Relief Grant Fund, which would allocate a total of $50 million in CARES Act resources to help those behind on rent, mortgage, water, sewer and/or utility bills. The missed payments must be between April 1, 2020 and December 30, 2020 to be eligible. Also, the eligibility requirement is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.

The announcement today also includes the following:

  • $125 million – The Ohio Development Services Agency will establish the Small Business Relief Program to provide grants of up to $10,000 apiece for businesses with 25 or fewer employees.
  • $37.5 million for $2,500 grants to establishments that have valid liquor licenses for on-premises consumption.
  • $62 million for rural and 25-bed critical access hospitals.
  • $100 million for colleges and universities, primarily to support Covid-19 testing and mental health counseling.
  • $25 million for nonprofits.
  • $20 million for arts organizations.

Applications open Nov. 2 at businesshelp.ohio.gov for the small business grants, which can be used for rent, mortgages, utilities, wages and supplies. Of the total, $44 million is set aside until at least 50 establishments are helped in each of Ohio’s 88 counties. If some counties fall short of that total after 21 days, the money will be released to the general pool.
