Wastewater Treatment Operator 1, Operator 2, or Operator 3 – Village of Grafton

 GENERAL SUMMARY:   Under the direction of the Village Administrator and or the Department Superintendent, the Grafton Village Wastewater Plant seeks applications and consideration to hire a  qualified Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join existing staff.  The individual responsibilities include ensuring  effective, reliable plant performance and regulatory compliance with permit standards; management and implementation of the facility maintenance program; assures required periodic maintenance including preventive maintenance of all equipment is performed  in a timely manner as required and recommended by equipment manufacturers, develops, prepares and reviews operating records and reports, keeps required records that document compliance and of water quality and other indicators.  Prepares inspection sheets, logs, and flow charts; prepares daily reports of analysis and test results for laboratory and regulatory agencies; maintains records; enters data to computer.   oversees continuing education and licensing requirement of all wastewater treatment plant operators and personnel, maintains accurate recordkeeping.

 Qualification Requirements:

Candidate must have the ability to apply practical day to day work situations; develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the EPA, general public, local village officials; and promote good public relations as a Village representative.

The successful individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and able to lift weight of at least 60-pounds when required.  This supervisory position is hands-on requiring physical labor working alongside with other plant operators.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or other abilities required. A valid driver’s license and the ability to be covered under the City’s vehicle insurance is required.

Education and/or Experience:

A College degree in science or engineering is desirable but not required. A broad experience in wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance with a minimum hour of experience required in the wastewater treatment field.  Must always maintain a positive work environment, will motivate, develop a balanced personnel staff and work schedule to comply with EPA established standards. 

License required

Must have and maintain a current Ohio EPA Class 1, Class II, or Class III Wastewater Treatment Operators License.  Fully funded continued education and training necessary for Operator advancement is provided.

 The 2023 salary range for Operator Class 1 is $21.73/hr., Operator Class II is $23.74/hr., and Operator Class II is 25.36/hr., and includes a comprehensive benefits package including OPERS retirement.  Candidate is required complete pre-employment screening, criminal background/motor vehicle check, credit check, drug and alcohol testing and a health physical screening.

PUBLIC WORKS LABORER- FULL TIME – VILLAGE OF GRAFTON, OHIO

The Village of Grafton Ohio is a growing community located in eastern Lorain County.  Grafton seeks to fill one full-time position as Public Works Department Laborer Class 1.  Laborer 1 starting pay is $15.92/hr. with future opportunity for advancement to Laborer II pay is $17.80/hr., Laborer II Water Operator in Training at 19.30/hr., and Laborer III with an Ohio Water Distribution license at 23.19/hr.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED with sufficient work experience involving manual labor/equipment operation or a combination of basic education and work experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Experience in construction, snow removal, landscaping, and performing heavy manual labor is a plus. Good physical strength and stamina required, and a willingness and ability to work under varying climatic conditions. Must be able to understand and follow oral instructions and write.

Any of the following considered a plus:

  • Knowledge of city, department and safety policies, procedures and knowledge of the handling and application of the chemicals necessary to maintain a safe work environment and personal safety.
  • Knowledge of general construction and road repair.
  • Skill in operating construction equipment, skill in the use of grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Skill in operating light and heavy equipment such as a frontend loader, dump truck and in the use of basic tools such as packing tools, socket wrenches, power tools,  screwdrivers, and handling heavy materials.

Valid State of Ohio driver’s license (non-CDL) is required.  CDL IS NOT REQUIRED for Laborer .  Class B Commercial  classification.  Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsements and other endorsements as may be required for future advancement.  The Valid State of Ohio Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Involves frequent walking or standing; some lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 60 pounds, with occasional lifting of items weighing 100 pounds; bending or stooping; working in confined spaces; frequent operation of motor vehicles and equipment, shop equipment and hand tools requiring manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination, some tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. Position requires working under adverse weather conditions.
