NATURAL GAS AGGREGATION PROGRAM

February 23, 2017

The village supported natural gas aggregation program is being suspended as of February 28, 2017.  In the past, AMP Ohio has overseen the program and natural gas pricing has been negotiated by resource provider IGS Energy.

Studying market trends over the past 8-years, we found prices often negotiated in January and February (peak use periods), have resulted in higher costs, whereas, costs negotiated in off-peak months have trended lower costs to gas users.  Your administrator’s office notified AMP Ohio last month our desire to not renew the agreement.  If we had opted to resign when asked on January 23, 2017, the fixed market price offered to Grafton then was $5.15 ccf.  The following day, we were again were asked to renew the aggregation agreement as the price increased to $5.20 ccf.  My office was advised that 9 other communities had decided to renew the agreement, locking in the $5.20 ccf for the next two-years, again I reaffirmed the decision to opt-out.  My office was again asked to confirmed our intention to opt out on February 8, 2017, we provided confirmation.

On Tuesday, February 22, 2017, Columbia Gas pricing had dropped to $4.37 ccf.  All currently on the Village of Grafton Aggregation program will be billed as direct customers of Columbia Gas as of March 1, 2017.  We recommend all residential and commercial natural gas customers research other option now as there are a number of natural gas aggregation programs.  When the village finds a group-aggregation program that benefits our community and allows our entry and negotiations as a purchasing group during off-peak periods, we will again pass along the opportunity for share group savings to our residents.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office at Village Hall.

Joe Price – Village Administrator
